From Mini Roo to A-League Star: William Freney’s Inspiring Journey
Every football dream starts somewhere, and for William Freney, that somewhere was Belgenny Reserve in 2011. A 5-year-old boy from Elderslie, William joined the Camden Falcons U6 team, wearing his first Falcons jersey and chasing a ball with the boundless energy and enthusiasm that only kids can muster. Little did anyone know that this Mini Roo was destined to fly high.

By the time William played his second season with the Falcons in U7, football had taken root in his heart. It was here, amidst the cheers of parents and the camaraderie of teammates, that he fell in love with the game. The Mini Roos programme, the beating heart of the Camden Falcons, played a pivotal role in shaping William’s early years.
With a focus on skill development, staying active, and building lifelong friendships, Mini Roos gave William the perfect start. It wasn’t just about football – it was about fun, teamwork, and learning to love the game. For William, those formative years with the Falcons were the springboard to something extraordinary.
As he grew, so did his talent and ambition. William advanced to representative football with Marconi and later joined the Western Sydney Wanderers Academy, where he continued to hone his skills. His dedication, passion, and hard work paid off in 2024 when, at just 18 years old, William signed his first professional contract with A-League club Perth Glory.
Now, every time he steps onto the pitch in Perth’s iconic purple jersey, William proudly carries the Camden Falcons emblem in his heart. His journey from a grassroots Mini Roo to an A-League star is a testament to what’s possible when dreams are nurtured.
The Camden Falcons Mini Roos programme continues to inspire the next generation of players. With over half the club’s players participating, it’s a place where kids not only develop their football skills but also learn the values of teamwork, perseverance, and fun. Who knows? The next William Freney might already be lacing up their boots at Belgenny Reserve.
William’s story is a reminder that dreams do come true – and they can start with just one kick of the ball. So, to all the young Falcons out there: keep playing, keep dreaming, and who knows where your journey might take you! 🦅⚽
