Open Letter to the Camden Falcons Community

Open Letter to the Camden Falcons Community

To our Falcons family,

Like so many of you, we are devastated by the fire that has destroyed our beloved clubhouse at Belgenny Reserve.

The clubhouse has been more than just a building. It has been a place where friendships were formed, premierships celebrated, volunteers gathered, and generations of players called home. It has held countless memories for thousands of people who have worn the Falcons colours over the years.

At this stage, we believe the fire originated in the upstairs clubhouse and resulted in the collapse of the entire roof structure. The damage is extensive and heartbreaking.

Among the losses are many irreplaceable pieces of our club’s history and identity. Our trophy collection, jerseys, uniforms and our much-loved Freddie Falcon have all been lost.

While the canteen and equipment room sustained significant water damage, the equipment shed was mostly affected by water and soot only.  Today, Camden Council provided limited supervised access to the site enabling us to recover some equipment from the shed, equipment room, canteen and breezeway. We are grateful to preserve some resources that will go towards supporting club operations in the months ahead.

We would like to sincerely thank Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Police for their response to the incident. We are incredibly grateful for the professionalism, care and dedication shown by the emergency services personnel who attended the scene.

The damage assessment is ongoing, and we are still assessing the full impact of the fire. In addition to the contamination caused by broken glass, essential infrastructure including field lighting has been affected, creating further safety concerns and making football activities at Belgenny Reserve unlikely for the remainder of the season.

Despite the devastation, we have already witnessed something truly remarkable.

The Macarthur football community has rallied around us. Clubs from across the region have reached out offering grounds, assistance, resources and support. The messages, phone calls and offers of help have been overwhelming, and we would like to sincerely thank everyone who has stood beside us during this difficult time. Your support reminds us that football is much bigger than rivalry or competition—it is community.

We have also been overwhelmed by the number of people asking how they can help. At this stage, we kindly ask for your patience while we work through the process.  Your offers of support mean the world to us, and we will share opportunities to assist when we have a clearer understanding of what is needed.

As many of you know, Camden Falcons is run entirely by volunteers. In the weeks and months ahead, our committee, coaches, managers and volunteers will take on the additional challenge of navigating this setback while ensuring football continues for our members.

We ask for your patience, understanding and support as we work through the many unknowns. We don’t have all the answers right now, but we are committed to keeping our community informed and doing everything possible to minimise disruption for our players and families.

Camden Falcons has faced adversity before. We have weathered floods and setbacks, and each time our community has come together stronger than before. This challenge will be no different.

The clubhouse may be gone, but the spirit of Camden Falcons remains as strong as ever. Our club is not defined by a building. It is defined by its people—our players, families, volunteers, coaches, managers, supporters and sponsors.

Together, we will rebuild.

Together, we will recover.

And together, we will emerge stronger than ever.

Thank you for standing with us.

Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon.
